Our workshop on “New Horizons in Hyperpolarized 13C MRI” in the “holy halls” of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities in the Munich Residence was a great success thanks to all participants and our excellent speakers (Kevin Brindle, Francesca Reineri, Andreas Schmidt, Kayvan Keshari, Martin Grashei, Myriam Chaumeil, Jim Bankson, Dan Vigneron, Christoffer Laustsen, Ferdia Gallagher). Hyperpolarized MRI allows to observe real-time metabolic changes in humans with the potential to improve diagnosis and therapy of patients, non-invasively and without the use of ionizing radiation. Novel technologies are being developed and were presented during the workshop to lower the hurdle for clinical translation and allow a more widespread use of the technique. Recent developments ranging from hyperpolarization technology, novel probes, acquisition strategies, competing/synergistic technologies and clinical studies were presented and discussed. We were kindly supported by the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the BMBF and NVision Imaging Technologies GmbH.
